DS12887A General Description

The DS12887A+ is a real-time clock (RTC) IC that includes a battery-backed DS12887A+ clock/calendar and a 31 byte static RAM organized as 256 bytes by 8 bits. It is designed to operate in the range of -40°C to +85°C and can operate with a power supply voltage as low as 3.0V. The clock/calendar portion of the DS12887A+ provides seconds, minutes, hours, days, date, months, and years. It also provides for leap year compensation and 12/24-hour clock formats.The DS12887A+ features a countdown timer with binary or BCD format. It offers battery backup for the clock and nonvolatile registers, using a lithium coin cell battery. The IC also includes a programmable square wave output and an alarm interrupt output. In terms of packaging, the DS12887A+ is available in a 24-pin DIP (dual in-line package) or surface-mount SOIC (small outline integrated circuit) package. It communicates with the host system using a 4-wire interface, and the data and clock lines are fully buffered for compatibility with bus-oriented systems.
