MCP23017-E/SS General Description

The MCP23017-E/SS is a 16-bit I/O expander with serial I2C interface from Microchip Technology. It has a total of 16 digital input/output pins which can be individually configured as input or output. The device operates at a voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V, making it compatible with a wide range of microcontrollers.The MCP23017-E/SS features high-speed I2C communication with a maximum bus speed of 1.7 MHz. It also includes built-in pull-up resistors which can be enabled or disabled through software. The device has an internal interrupt output pin that can be configured to alert the microcontroller when a certain event occurs.Additionally, the MCP23017-E/SS has programmable hardware address pins which allow for up to eight devices to be controlled on the same I2C bus. This makes it easy to expand the number of I/O pins on a microcontroller without consuming additional GPIO pins.
