NE555P General Description
The NE555P is a precise timing circuit that can generate accurate time delays or oscillations. It operates in two main modes: mono-stable and a-stable. In mono-stable mode, the timing interval is set by an external resistor and capacitor. In a-stable mode, frequency and duty cycle are controlled by two resistors and a capacitor.
The threshold and trigger levels are typically around two-thirds and one-third of the supply voltage (VCC), respectively. These levels can be adjusted using the control voltage terminal. When the trigger input drops below the trigger level, the output goes high. If the trigger input is above the trigger level and the threshold input is above the threshold level, the output goes low.
The reset (RESET) input can override other inputs and initiate a new timing cycle. When RESET goes low, the output goes low as well. The output circuit can source or sink up to 200 mA of current. The NE555P operates between 5 V and 15 V supplies, with output levels compatible with TTL inputs at 5 V supply voltage.
How to use NE555P?
Astable Multivibrator: This configuration generates a continuous oscillation. Depending on the frequency, it can be classified as follows:
For frequencies above 1 cycle per second, it functions as a square wave oscillator or simply an oscillator.
For frequencies below 1 cycle per second, it operates as a slow oscillator.
Monostable Operation: In this mode, the NE555P changes state only once per trigger pulse. It's often referred to as a "One-Shot" and serves as a timer or delay.
Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO): This setup transforms the NE555P into a VCO, where changes in the input voltage result in varying oscillation frequencies.
